Wednesday Smiles

I can't believe I haven't done one of these posts since April (!?). I can always use a reminder to focus on gratitude and good things, so this is me, trying to restart a healthy habit.  Let's try something a little different, too, though, if you're up for it.  Because I've been so scarce online these past few months, I'm a bit disconnected from you all.  If you have the time to do so, please tell me how you're doing.  Besides what's made you smile recently, what's occupying your time and head-space?  Are you excited about anything particular?  Anxious?

My smiles:

1) You lovely, lovely people who have left such thoughtful comments lately. Thank you for listening to me. ♥ Replies coming soon, but I really wanted to get this up before Morpheus whisks me away for the night.

2) The way my daughter laughs -- with such uninhibited, pure joy.

Please tell me what's made you happy or grateful lately. The world can always use a little more sunshine. I see a lot of you lurking here; don't be shy. Feel free to share something, even if you never pipe up again. :)

I mostly post fannish things in this journal, but I think it's easy to forget that there is a real person behind the fic and the Bones commentary. Same goes for other people, of course. So I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge our humanity.

If you'd like to do so, please tell me something that made you smile this week, no matter how small. Could be the snuggle your dog gave you on Monday, the song you discovered on Tuesday, or the way your significant other smiled at you today. I've been posting these since December 2007. If you feel up to it, please respond—here, in your own journal, or elsewhere. Feel free to post more than one thing and/or respond to other comments.

Why am I doing this? Because I think it is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses, big and small, that we all experience. Being able to focus on one positive thing, however small, can give one a valuable sense of perspective.

Why Wednesday? I figure a little mid-week cheer can't hurt. :)

I smiled when I saw that bloodwrites will be updating The Murder in the Marriage soon!

I know that sounds stupid, but omg, I love that fic and I can't wait for an update!

And I totally love your idea.

I've been in Italy and Greece for the past week or so with my school. It was such a great experience as i saw so many things (Rome, Pompeii, the Vatican, Athens, Olympia) and learned so much. I also realized that I have a greater passion for archaeology but am also still very focused on television.

I'm grateful that yesterday's earthquake was as uneventful as it was (and that I started installing my VPN software before the earthquake, so I was able to work from home afterward).

I am lucky enough to work in an office where the owners bring their dogs to work. One of them, a 1 year old British Bulldog I'm especially fond of (I dog-sit her when her owner goes away).

Yesterday she was playing around, got up on her hind legs, lost her balance and toppled backward in slow motion, very calmly, until she landed smack bang on her own head.

Somersaulting dogs. My Wednesday smile.

(more of a 'Wednesday Belly-Laugh' to be honest, but what the hey!)

Yesterday I smiled with relief when England got through to the next phase of the World Cup and so did USA. Of course, we play Germany next. DNW.

Today I smiled when the postman brought me parcels with pictures of DB in them. I smiled very widely and made an icon with one of the images. I'm all accomplished now.

Hey, nice to see Wednesday smiles again.

For me the smiles came from getting a decent grade for my Honours degree, seeing The Gaslight Anthem with my best friend last night and looking forward to seeing Pink at Hampden Stadium on Saturday.

This is a good week :)

*cuddles*

Yay for smiley M! :D

I have just finished uni for the summer so I'm hanging out and getting my stuff together before I start work a week on Monday. Yaaaay employment. *g*

We had an earthquake here yesterday (very rare for us, and it was a 5.5 - so we REALLY felt it), so that freaked me out a little.

But then when I got home my cat jumped into my arms and snuggled with me, and that made me smile. :)

My smiles this week are the forest by my apartment that I get to walk through whenever I want, the dinner I'll be going to with friends this Friday night, and the high school reunion I had last weekend. :)

I had a very scary, almost near-death experience today, and I survived.

I'm happy for that, even if I am in a bit of pain.
