Friends, I come to you with my hands raised in supplication.

Long story short: I have a bridal shower to attend on Sunday, and for it I need to buy a bottle of wine or champagne and decorate it for the 4th of July (America's Independence Day). Why? Because that's the holiday I got stuck with. In September. (We're decorating wine bottles so the happy couple will have something to pop open during every holiday over the course of the first year of their married life.)

I have no idea what to do. Does anyone have any crafty suggestions? Pretty please?!  I'm desperate.

Maybe you could decorate a blank label with red white and blue stars. Maybe some ribbon. You could put their names on in, the month and year they'll get married. Cute stuff like that.

Hope it helps!

Thanks. Because of multiple family health issues, I couldn't make it to the shower after all. :( But I appreciate your suggestions regardless.

Um, do you have a dollar tree or dollar general or something near you? Since we just had Labor Day there may be some flag deco or such on clearance right now? It's so hard to find actual holiday stuff when it's not the holiday though.

What *would* be cute is... do you sew at all? Or know anyone who does? Because I'm sure you could go to a fabric store and find fabric with stars and stripes or some such pattern. But a yard of that and sew it into a little cover for the bottle with a simple drawstring at the top?

Personally, I wouldn't have the resources to do that myself, but my mom would be able to whip it up in about an hour. LOL!

I know, I'm no help. /o\

Hi, Space. I WISH I could sew. It's on my list of things to do someday (when my kids are in college).

Because of multiple family health issues, I couldn't make it to the shower after all. :( But I appreciate your suggestions regardless. Thank you.

I like Space's idea, but a yard is way too much. Half a yard would be plenty. If you don't sew, you can buy fabric glue.

However, if you don't sew and don't want to mess with that, go to JoAnn's or Michaels. They seem to have patriotic stuff all year round. Or, get some white or silver paint (find some with glitter or buy glitter to add to it) that will stay on glass OR see if they have some red/wht/bl stickers of some kind and/or stars. You maybe even find paint in a pen that will work on glass and that will be easier to write with.

Paint stars and write something like their names and wedding date on the bottle or put stickers all over it. Buy some red/wh/bl ribbon and make a big tri-color bow for the neck and allow streamers to flow down the bottle. Use your scissors to rub down the ribbon streamers to curl them.

(Just thought of something else). If you could find red and white striped tissue paper (I know, difficult) or buy some red and white tissue paper and make striped paper (cut/glue), you could wrap the bottle in that and find some blue/white ribbon (either stars or polka dots) to make a large bow to tie the striped tissue paper together at the neck. Make a white star-shaped tag out of card stock and write whatever you want on the tag in red or blue ink or maybe using a glitter gel pen. You could also put some festive stickers on there if you find them or using colorful glitter gel pens to draw fireworks exploding on the white stripes.

Hi. Because of multiple family health issues, I couldn't make it to the shower after all. :( But I appreciate your many suggestions regardless. I'll look back at all the replies to this post if I need crafty inspiration in the future. Thank you very much for your help.

Red, white, and blue pipe cleaners (they even make 'em in sparkly kinds). If you wrap them around the bottle, it will look flag-ish, if you want to get crazy, stick a bunch in the cork like a 'firework.'

Because of multiple family health issues, I couldn't make it to the shower after all. :( But I still appreciate your crafty suggestions. Thanks a lot.

Piggy backing off damnskippytoo's comment, I noticed when we were in Michaels last week that Sharpie now has water based paint markers. They would probably work well for writing/painting/drawing on the bottle.

Great idea, Liz. Thank you. I couldn't make it to the shower after all because of multiple health issues in the family, but I'm filing this away for future crafty reference/inspiration.

Since this is for a wedding (my monitor died so I am behind again), fireworks seem appropriate. Get some sparklers and firecrackers and tie them to the bottle with strands of red, white and blue curling ribbon. We can get fireworks year-round here.

Hope your computer's behaving now. Because of multiple family health issues, I couldn't make it to the shower after all. :( But I appreciate your crafty suggestions anyway. Thanks a bunch.

I know it's after the fact, but I'm just dyin' to know what you ended up doing! Can you send me a PM?
