Wednesday (oops, make that Thursday) Smiles
DB!Glasses2 - lerdo
Thanks to not being around much yesterday, I forgot to post this.  So, here I am a day late.  Forgive me.  I suck.  *g*

I mostly post fannish things in this journal, but I think it's easy to forget that there is a real person behind the fic and the squeeing over Bones.  Same goes for other people, of course.   So I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge our humanity.

Please tell me something that made you smile this week, no matter how small.  Could be the excellent latte you had on Monday, the song you discovered on Tuesday, or the way your significant other smiled at you today.  I'm going to try to post this every Wednesday for myself, and if you feel up to it, please respond—here, in your own journal, or elsewhere.   Feel free to post more than one thing and/or respond to other comments.

Why am I doing this?  Because I think it is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses, big and small, that we all experience.   Being able to focus on one positive thing, however small, can give one a valuable sense of perspective.

Why Wednesday?  I figure a little mid-week cheer can't hurt.  :)

If you feel weird about doing this in public, please comment anonymously.  I'm setting this entry to screen anon comments; I won't unscreen any anon comments unless you give me permission.  And please feel free to comment even if we're not "friends."

I'll be back with my response.

Things that gave me a happy this week:

1. This vid: Murder Unscripted
makd posted the link in her journal. *smooches her*

2. Rediscovering Tori Amos. God, can that woman sing (and play piano).

3. Someone commented that my writing is "not boring." I don't think that person intended to make me laugh, but I laughed anyway.

My Father made me smile a big dimpled smile yesterday. He returned back from China last friday and before he went I'd mentioned in passing that I would love it if he would bring me back a kimono and low and behold he actually took time off in Shanghai to find one for me even if it was just something I'm mentioned sorter running out of the door and I didn't think he'd even heard me.
I really do have the best Dad in the world!
What else have made me smile? This guy at work made me laugh so hard today that tears were rolling down my cheeks - it was just a wacky complete inside joke but we were both laughing so hard that the rest of the office were just looking at us and thinking 'now they've done it. Gone and completly lost the very last of their shared marbels.'
Last but not least I'm putting on a brave smile that tomorrow I'm starting the first course of hormones for our IVF treatment, something that's a little scary but also sorter nice.
Hope you've had plenty of smiles this week :)

1. Beautiful (and when I say beautiful, I mean drop dead gorgeous) and slightly spoilery pictures of Joe Flanigan (from a John Sheppard-based episode of SGA - backstory, finally!) released by MGM this week. *guh*

2. New clients! I'm almost fully booked (I only take on 4-5 clients at a time) for the next six weeks!!!

3. Eye medicine that makes my eye not look like I fell down a flight of stairs.

4. Good friends to make me smile... *g*

(Oh, I haven't reviewed your most recent drabbles only because I haven't read them yet... can't read the pron at work and have been busy in the evenings... forgive me?)

Your icon is lovely.

1. I no longer care about spoiling myself, so I just went to your LJ and clicked on the pics. *g* What a beautiful man. BTW, I watched SGA ep 1x4 a few days ago.

2. Fabulous! Congratulations; that is beyond wonderful. :)

3. *hugs you, but not too close so I don't get whatever you have, since I wear contacts and my glasses are broken*

4. You make me smile. You're forthright and real; I like you.

Don't be silly. This is my journal, so I just write and post, and people can read or not read as they see fit. I'm not under the illusion that anyone's life is stopping so they can read my sentimental scribblings and pr0n. Ha! As if. :)

Given some of our past conversations, I'm curious if one or more of the recent scribblings will have you gagging. Now if THAT doesn't make you want to read...*g* (Or if things will feel sufficiently motivated/psychologically sound.)

If you don't care about spoiling yourself, I could happily give you a quick run down of the storyline to date and give you the episodes I think you should watch... And this season's finale will probably be mind-blowing (and it creeps me out in a way few things do and it's one of my big, big fears in life so I'm looking forward to it with a great deal of trepidation).

E-mail me (thecelticdog[at]gmail[dot]com) and I'll give you a "watch" list for a crash course in the show. Or... I might just post it in my journal, too. *g*

And, oh, gods, you watched Thirty-Eight Minutes... Yes, one of the good ones. Now watch The Storm and The Eye and meet the mind of a sociopath.

You make me smile. You're forthright and real; I like you.

Awww... *blushes*

Life is too short not to be real, I believe. Doesn't mean I can't be a total, raging bitch, but I will always be honest about it.

It was really weird, but what can you expect from a couple of 14 year olds? My friend was over and she was checking her email while I corrected her homework for her. So the phone rings, and she picks it up and looks at me a few seconds later and she says "It's an automated [voice] for the Clinton campaign." So I tell her to hang up. She picks up the reciever, says "I'm voting for Obama" and hangs up.

That kept us giggling for quite a while.

My friends and I went to the shopping Saturday. It was funny but we walked all day and our feet were sore in the evening. We needed to rest and we went in a Starbucks. We drank a delicious coffee and we sat down in a couch. Friends, coffee and couch make me smile :D

And like trilliane, the first pictures of Mulder/Scully from the XF movie *squeee*

I bugged my dad yesterday so I could get on to do this (I don't know why I was so anxious though) and got sidetracked by all the lovely fics you posted.

but anyways...something that made me wasn't yesterday, but just happened in the last 15 minutes. I saw a guy I became friends with last semester and didn't see him over Christmas break and when we saw each other today he greeted me with a smile and a hug and asked me how my vacation was. That was very nice.

Snow! I live in GA, and it actually snowed yesterday. Granted, most of it was gone by this morning, but it was so beautiful when it was coming down. It's been at leat 4 years since we had any snow at all here, and it was definitely a welcome change in pace.

Ah, what a lovely surprise for you, then. :) I'm in MD, and it snowed here, too.

Hmm.. Beef Jerky made me smile, i'd held out a craving for it for a few months and gave in..

My mum signing up to take the same course as me made me smile too because its something she's dreamed of doing for years.

And my best friend for helping me laugh =].

Food, family, and a friend—the essentials. :)

I love when you do this. You generously give us time to sit back and think, and smile again. It's a bit like a gratitude journal, with a once/week entry -- so much easier to do. :-)

well, I guess what I just wrote --- makes me smile.

Also: Tuesday was one of the best birtdays ever for me, and I'm now 63. Lovely gifts, funny card, spouse cooked me a delicious meal, and we worked on a home improvement project together. Tomorrow, the daughter returns home to cook for me. I guess this entire week has been of the good. thank you for the opportunity to review that.

I've said it before: YOU are one of the good things in your flist's week. :-)

[head-desk.] Clearly, typing is something that makes me gleeful, as I giggle at my typos. That should've been "birthdays", not the Brooklynese "birtdays".

Sorry for butting in but I was just skimming the replies (gotta do that more often, it's so uplifting!) and I came across yours and wow. First, Happy Birthday for Tuesday!!! I'm glad you had a good day. Secondly, and this is what really got me, WOW. You have to be the coolest 63 year old ever. I mean, being able to wrangle computers isn't a prerequisite for coolness (it really isn't) but my mum's 61 and she can barely get through her inbox every few weeks. And I see you here ALL THE TIME.

So yeah, I just had to express my respect for your awesome.

So cool.

Mulder and Scully are back!!!

That certainly made my day, my week and my month =P

Squeezy hugs for you.

My brother, his girlfriend and their 20 month baby showed up a few days ago, just because they were passing by and the girl told them she wanted to see her aunt. So lovely! I can't stand her more than half an hour, but she's still cute. ;)

Also, Mulder and Scully pictures today made me squee smile too. :):)

Yes, it certainly did! 'Twas beautiful. :)

Letting go of the fics I'll never finish made me happy, as strange as that might sound. It's really liberating, and I hope it gives me renewed energy to focus on the projects still in my head.

Doesn't sound strange at all. I understand; sometmes moving on requires letting go. Congratulations.

I discovered what fan fiction is for the first time this, and more specifically I discovered yours! IT MADE ME VERY HAPPY! Also I finished my last high school midterms today that made me happy AND I got 2 scholarships to one of my top colleges that made me AND my parents very happy OH YEAH AND I found some videos of my friends and I on my computer from when we were freshmen and it is REALLY CUTE... Oooo AND My little four year old neighbor came to my door yesterday and asked me to come and play outside with him :-) i couldn't because i had to finish a paper so he said "ummmm okay how about FRIDAY!" he just is so cute I LOVE HIM! Wow a lot has made me happy this week... it has been a very happy week even though mid-terms made it feel like it wasn't... I love this idea it just totally brought my entire week into perspective! THANKS! ps. this is my first time commenting... I don't have an LJ anymore (i did when i was like 12) and i just want to say your writing is fantastic, you are very talented!

reading your fic made me smile.

my cat when he sleeps on my lap.

re-watchting the 'Ellen' vid clip , to make sure my brain was right ...>points at your icon.

and not to forget eventhough there were tears , news from my boy

Hi, I only found your LJ this week upon which a huge smile reached me at the quality of the fic here. At some point I will review them all (on a reread) but for now I just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed them.

And because I love the idea of this post I think I'll share that this week I saw my little sister for the first time in six months which was amazing.

One of those rare moments when you wish you'd said something funny and actually do. Casting for a reading of Macbeth Act 1 scene i.
Me: I need a First Witch, Second Witch and a Third Witch.
Boy: I want to be the Sandwich. (ha ha)
Me: OK but it's a non-speaking role.

I kid you not that's what happened and we all fell about laughing - once I'd explained the role/roll play on words.

Okay, you officially pwn.

I was laughing myself silly even before you mentioned the role/roll joke. Oh god...

Buying books. I'm such a bibliophile.

Two of my students doing an entire dance routine (while seated) to "Apache". I shouldn't have laughed. I should have been a mature teacher, but some things are just too spontaneously funny.

Finally catching up with one of my best friends after playing phone tag and hearing how excited she was for her 21st birthday. We usually don't speak for months at a time during the semester, but it was great to hear her voice and know she was happy.

This is actually a Wednesday smile so go me for completing the assignment! Can I have a gold star, now?

I went for a walk along the headland and down to the beach. And I walked home backwards. Because I... felt like it. Anyway, as thrilling as that was - the neighbours had a daughter and son in law out the front of their place as I was going along the street. And I waved and they looked puzzled and we smiled at each other. And as soon as I was out of sight, going down my steps backwards, I heard their daughter burst out laughing.

I quite enjoyed making someone I don't even know laugh like that.

Kudos to you for seeing it as being able to make someone else laugh.

Also for walking backwards. I can barely walk frontwards sometimes. :o)

Something that made me smile this week, huh? Well, I work with preschoolers - they're always making me smile.

But yesterday (Friday), the kids and I were making aliens, and one little girl sitting beside me kept saying about everyone's painting, "oh, that's so bootiful!"

It was adorable, and sweet, and I hope it makes you smile too.

Also, someday I will actually manage to review your fics, because they make me smile (really, they make my week).
