Wednesday Smiles
B/B Nastrovje! Animated
only_more_love
I mostly post fannish things in this journal, but I think it's easy to forget that there is a real person behind the fic and the squeeing over Bones.  Same goes for other people, of course.   So I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge our humanity.

Please tell me something that made you smile this week, no matter how small.  Could be the excellent latte you had on Monday, the song you discovered on Tuesday, or the way your significant other smiled at you today.  I'm going to try to post this every Wednesday for myself, and if you feel up to it, please respond—here, in your own journal, or elsewhere.   Feel free to post more than one thing and/or respond to other comments.

Why am I doing this?  Because I think it is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses, big and small, that we all experience.   Being able to focus on one positive thing, however small, can give one a valuable sense of perspective.

Why Wednesday?  I figure a little mid-week cheer can't hurt.  :)

If you feel weird about doing this in public, please comment anonymously.  I'm setting this entry to screen anon comments; I won't unscreen any anon comments unless you give me permission.  And please feel free to comment even if we're not "friends."

I'll be back with my response.

P.S.
I'm behind on responding to comments, but I read every single response to these Wednesday Smiles posts, and they all leave me feeling a little bit lighter than I did before.  So thank you!  I hope you're all having a good week, my friends.

My little boy (5 years old) sat down after school today and read me an entire book all by himself. I was so proud, I couldn't help but smile...

Oh, that IS something worth smiling about. What a milestone! :)

1. witchofthedogs wrote a beautiful Stargate: Atlantis fic. I have minimal knowledge of SGA, but I still enjoyed the story very much. What can I say? I like my fictional men a little bent, if not broken. *g*

2. Death Cab for Cutie's Soul Meets Body

3. I think someone who reads my Bones fics thinks I'm a man. While this didn't make me happy, it did make me laugh.

*g* Oh yeah, that's a good day. See? You have men falling at your feet. ;)

BTW, is that Kate Winslet in your icon?

The other day, I was singing a song in my room while listening to my ipod and spaced out for a second and forget anyone could hear me. That was until my Mom asked me if I had been playing a song on my computer. I said.... no.. that was me singing. She said something like....really? She told me she forgot how beautiful my singing voice always was. That just....made feel really good. A compliment can go a long way sometimes. :D

Oh, that's so sweet. And yes, I agree with you on the power of a sincere compliment. :) *hugs you*

After months and months of badgering, I finally convinced a friend to watch The X-Files. And she loves it. New Philes always make me smile.

I also smile at least 20 times a day when I think about the new XF movie and the fact that it will be released on my birthday. 'Cause I'm a nerd.

Nerds are of the good. :) And it seems like 80% of LJ is dying for the new XF movie. It's awesome that they're doing another one.

X-Files is perpetually on my to watch list. I've seen a couple episodes here and there, but not in a long time, and not in any sort of cohesive way. But tons of Bones fans are Philes, too. I almost feel like I HAVE to watch it at some point. *g*

I found more Bones fanfiction I like since I have been searching for awhile.

Today during PE, we were playing wiffleball and someone his our coach right in the middle of the forehead. Hilarious, he said it didn't hurt.

I get to go to Florida tomorrow :)

Fic, a forehead, and Florida. *g* Have fun in Florida!

well its not exactly Wednesday for me.. but it did happen yesterday so i suppose it still counts:P

I found a really hilarious website that summed up "basic guide to Aussie life". it made me smile because its so true!

I posted it on my LJ if anyone is interested.. its a commemoration to Australia day which is this Sat :)

Doesn't have to be on Wednesday. Whenever's fine. And it's Lemon in your icon! I love 30 Rock. :)

That website sounds like a riot; I'll have to check it out. I have relatives in Perth.

I was a little down last night, and my dog (who definitely not a snuggler) climbed up in the recliner with me and cuddled for nearly an hour. His ability to read my mood really made a bad week better.

::Doc:: *hugs you* Sorry you're having a bad week. Feel free to vent about it if you want.

On Monday, I downloaded the Prospect Mali album on iTunes for the song "The Silence." (It's about Jim and Pam from the US version of "The Office.")

Well, I loved me some of "The Silence," but then I listened to "Book Girl," and I've been hooked on that one song ever since.

If anyone's an "Office" fan, Prospect Mali posted a video for "The Silence" with clips of the show on Youtube right here:

Totally just accidentally posted that Prospect Mali thing anonymously. Yeah, that was me.

I had never heard of Prospect Mali until you commented. Now I'm hooked. What a great song, and an adorable vid. Jim and Pam are so sweet. Thanks for introducing me to PM; new music is always such a treat.

I qualified for a Pell Grant for school and now I can pay bills and buy myself a lap top!

Wow, Lizet! That's WONDERFUL. Many hugs and congrats to you. Enjoy picking out your laptop. :)

My hubby was out with the guys tonight, so it was just me and my 4yr old son.

We sat on the couch, ate chips, and watched The Bugs and Tweety Show.

Nothing rocks more than getting to relive your childhood with your own child :)

Piper, that sounds perfect. Hug your son for me. :)

I work in a call center for a financial institution and someone called in today to request a form. I asked her if she wanted me to email the form to her, fax it to her, or send it to her by regular mail. She very clearly stated email. I asked for her email address and she said, "I don't have a computer."

It just made me giggle and it was a nice bit of levity in an otherwise pretty intense week.

I can understand why that made you giggle. *g*

The epsidoes of Torchwood I've been watching! He's not David, but John Barrowman is no slouch.

Oh, man, that clip you linked to is too much. *is highly tempted to watch Torchwood* John Barrowman is...wow.

It's just so... so... *eighties*!

Um, I bought SpaceCamp (1986) on dvd at Best Buy.

And while I did that last week with my brother (who incidentally arrived into my world the same year as this movie) it was only this week that I actually popped it into my computer. I can't explain how wide my smile is. It's not what one would call a 'great flick'. And yet there's this thing about it that just makes me warm and tingly inside. It's embarrassing how much I love this movie. =D

Re: It's just so... so... *eighties*!

I don't think I've ever watched SpaceCamp, but I can certainly understand the appeal of certain movies that aren't particularly "artistic" but still make you feel good. I totally get that. :)
