This is a compilation of songs that I think encompasses Brennan and Booth's relationship from fairly early in the first season to the present. Some of the songs speak to specific episodes and moments in their partnership, while others touch on more general facets of their relationship.
I've never made a fanmix before, but I often have particular songs that I associate with different characters and pairings. I love music, Bones, and Photoshop, so I decided to combine the three. :)

Track listing with notes:
01 Michael Buble - Save the Last Dance for Me
Timing: Season 1, Episode 4: The Man in the Bear
(Booth's POV as he watches Brennan dance with various men during their stint in Washington State. He isn't in love with her at this point, but he's attracted to her and possessive of her.)
You can dance-every dance with the guy
Who gives you the eye, let him hold you tight
You can smile-every smile for the man
Who held your hand 'neath the pale moon light
But don't forget who's takin' you home
And in whose arms you're gonna be
So darlin' save the last dance for me
You can dance, go and carry on
Till the night is gone
And it's time to go
If he asks if you're all alone
Can he walk you home, you must tell him no
'Cause don't forget who's taking you home
And in whose arms you're gonna be
So darling, save the last dance for me
02 Suzanne Vega - Left of Center
Timing: Season 1, Episode 9: The Man in the Fallout Shelter
(Brennan's POV about Booth and the Squint Squad as they spend Christmas quarantined together at the Jeffersonian because of their exposure to a pathogen. Everyone but Brennan has Christmas visitors while they're stuck in the lab. Also about how she often feels in general -- different, solitary, and ill at ease with other people. Over time, she and Booth start to understand the ways in which they are similar, despite their numerous surface differences. They each carry a certain amount of darkness and pain.)
If you want me,
You can find me
Left of center off of the strip
In the outskirts and in the fringes
In the corner, out of the grip
I think that somehow, somewhere inside of us
We must be similar, if not the same
So I continue to keep wanting you
Left of center, against the grain
03 Trapt - Headstrong
Timing: Season 1, Episode 13: The Woman in the Garden
(Booth's thoughts when he confronts Ramon Ortez and puts a gun in his mouth in response to the hit Ortez has put out on Brennan.)
Back off I’ll take you on
Headstrong to take on anyone
I know that you are wrong
Headstrong we’re Headstrong
Back off I’ll take you on
Headstrong to take on anyone
I know that you are wrong and this is not where you belong
I can’t give everything away
I won’t give everything away
04 Pink - God is a DJ
Timing: Season 1, Episode 15: Two Bodies in the Lab
(In this episode and in numerous other episodes, Booth wants Brennan to loosen up and live a little. In this specific episode, he wants her to dance to Foreigner's "Hot Blooded."
If God is a DJ
Life is a dance floor
Love is the rhythm
You are the music
If God is a DJ
Life is a dance floor
You get what you're given
It's all how you use it
If God Is a DJ... If God
If God is a DJ (life is a dance floor)
Get your ass on the dance floor
05 Nina Gordon - Tonight and the Rest of My Life
Timing: Season 1, Episode 15: Two Bodies in the Lab
(Brennan's feelings as she and Booth dance in her apartment -- before her fridge explodes and injures Booth.)
And I feel so light
This is all I want to feel tonight
And I feel so light
Tonight and the rest of my life
06 Soul Asylum - Somebody to Shove
Timing: Season 1, Episode 20: The Soldier on the Grave
(The Devon Marshall case pushes Booth's buttons and dredges up unpleasant memories of the time he spent in Kosovo while he was an Army Ranger. He pushes everyone, including Brennan, away. At the same time, he wants to open up to someone about what's bothering him. He opens up to Brennan at the very end of the episode and shares something that is very private and very painful.)
And I'm waiting by the phone
Waiting for you to call me up and tell me I’m not alone
Yes I'm waiting by the phone
I'm waiting for you to call me up and tell me I’m not alone
Cause I want somebody to shove
I need somebody to shove
I want somebody to shove me
Yes I want somebody to shove
I need somebody to shove
I want somebody to shove me
07 Keane - Crystal Ball
Timing: Season 1, Episode 20: The Soldier on the Grave
(This represents Booth's turmoil and confusion during the Devon Marshall case.)
Who is the man I see
Where I'm supposed to be?
I lost my heart, I buried it too deep
Under the iron sea
Oh, crystal ball, crystal ball
Save us all, tell me life is beautiful
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Lines ever more unclear
Not sure I'm even here
The more I look the more I think that I'm
Starting to disappear
Oh, crystal ball, crystal ball
Save us all, tell me life is beautiful
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Oh, crystal ball, hear my song
I'm fading out, everything I know is wrong
So put me where I belong
08 Heather Nova - Heart and Shoulder
Timing: Season 1, Episode 21: The Woman in Limbo
(Booth knows there is little he can actually do for Bones in the wake of the identification of her murdered mother's remains, the discovery of her parents' true occupations, and the discovery of her real name. That doesn't stop him from him wanting to just be there for her as she grieves the loss of her mother and her illusions about her family.)
I'm powerless to change your world
I'm powerless to stop the hurt
But I'll give you my heart
Give you my shoulder
I give you my heart
Give you my shoulder
Over and over
I'm trying hard to be your tower of strength
I'm trying hard to bring you back to joy
09 Teddy Geiger - These Walls
Timing: Season 1, Episode 21: The Woman in Limbo
(Bones is reeling from the identification of her mother's remains and the revelations that flow from it. She starts to break down, but Booth is there. She lets herself lean on him in spite of her general reluctance to depend on ANYONE.)
Everything seemed okay when I started out the other day
Then the rain came pouring down
And now I'm drowning in my fears
And as I watch the setting sun
I wonder if I'm the only one
'Cause everybody tries to put some love on the line
And everybody feels a broken heart sometimes
And even when I'm scared I have to try to fly
Sometimes I fall
But I've seen it done before
I got to step outside these walls
I've got no master plan to help me out
Or make me stand up for
All the things that I really want
You had me to afraid to ask
And as I look ahead of me
Cry and pray for sanity
These walls can't be my haven
These walls can't keep me safe here
Now I guess I've got to let them down
10 Spin Doctors: How Could You Want Him (When You know You Could Have Me?)
Timing: Season 2, Episode 16: The Boneless Bride in the River
(Brennan seems quite happy with Sully -- cracking groan-worthy jokes, taking a vacation, and considering taking a sabbatical to travel with him for a year. She seems to need Booth less. He genuinely wants her to be happy, so he encourages her to accept Sully's offer to travel, but there is a small part of him that is jealous and wonders how she can want Sully, who is, after all, a fellow FBI agent, and not want him.)
I'm quite contented to take my chances
Against the Guildensterns & Rosenkrantzes
It's a matter of Cain & Abel
And I can feel your knee underneath the table
He doesn't dangle by the seraphim
He only wants a pretty face by him so
How could you want him when you know you could have me?
11 Skillet - Yours to Hold
Timing: Season 2, Episode 16: The Boneless Bride in the River (or 2x11: Judas on a Pole)
(Booth's POV)
I see you standing here
But you're so far away
Starving for your attention
You don't even know my name
You're going through so much
But I know that I could be the one to hold you
I'm stretching but you're just out of reach
You should know
I'm ready when you're ready for me
And I'm waiting for the right time
For the day I catch your eye
To let you know
That I'm yours to hold
Every single day
I find it hard to say
I could be yours alone (yours alone)
You will see someday
That all along the way
I was yours to hold
I was yours to hold
12 Poe - Amazed
Timing: Season 2, Episode 18: The Killer in the Concrete
(For Booth's sake, Bones works with her dad and allows him to torture a bounty hunter. She compromises her principles -- for Booth. They are no longer just partners. At the very least, they are friends. She's prepared to sacrifice for him, as he has sacrificed for her.)
You change the equation that I add up to
And all of the things I thought I knew
You turn it around
I'm amazed
When push comes to shove what I'd give to you
Everything
I'm amazed
The hallways I wouldn't mind crawling through
And I'd do it for days and days
Wait, I thought I had this down
I built all my cages and my hide out
I covered all my bases
But you
You creep in like a whisper
I try not to listen but I hear you
I don't know just what it is you do
But do it again
13 Ani Difranco - Superhero
Timing: Season 2, Episode 18: The Killer in the Concrete
(Bones' POV)
'cause I used to be a superhero
no one could touch me
not even myself
you are like a phone booth
I somehow stumbled into
and now look at me
I am just like everybody else
14 Sister Hazel - Concede
Timing: Current
(Booth's POV)
Concede and believe me
I won't give up--I won't give out on you
Now hear--I promise to listen
Why won't you go for that
Now hear--I promise to hold you
Why won't you go for that
So now you shut off and you shut down
Won't let nobody in
And when you shut off and you shut down
Won't play that fool again
I've seen your inside--you stay inside
And I won't go for that
I've seen your quarters....
Seen your crooked sacred pictures on the wall
I'll be your jester--be your fool
Compromising fool
I'll be your jester--be your fool...
15 Jane Siberry - Anytime
Timing: Current
(Booth's POV)
Anytime
Anytime
That you want me
I’ll always be there
And in the darkest hour
I will always be nearby through love’s power
Someday (someday)
Someday (someday)
When I’m long gone
I’ll still always be there
Yeah somehow (somehow)
Somehow (somehow)
Maybe in a song
Or maybe in the wind
Or maybe in the rain
Or maybe in the sunshine
