Wednesday Smiles
Perfect Imperfections - unexpectedbox

My smiles:

1. Rachel Maddow handed David Frum his ass on a gilded platter -- and she did it with such grace & civility. :)

2. Two squirrels were chasing each other around and playing tag in my yard earlier this week.

3. Thank you, Campbell Brown, for being a voice of sanity.

I mostly post fannish things in this journal, but I think it's easy to forget that there is a real person behind the fic and the Bones commentary. Same goes for other people, of course. So I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge our humanity.

If you'd like to do so, please tell me something that made you smile this week, no matter how small. Could be the snuggle your dog gave you on Monday, the song you discovered on Tuesday, or the way your significant other smiled at you today. I've been posting these since December. If you feel up to it, please respond—here, in your own journal, or elsewhere. Feel free to post more than one thing and/or respond to other comments.

Why am I doing this? Because I think it is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses, big and small, that we all experience. Being able to focus on one positive thing, however small, can give one a valuable sense of perspective.

Why Wednesday? I figure a little mid-week cheer can't hurt. :)

Please feel free to comment even if we're not "friends."

I don't always get a chance to respond to all your smiles, but I read every single one. They all leave me feeling a little bit lighter than I did before. So thank you! I hope you're all having a good week, my friends, and if you're not, I hope it improves.

I love squirrels. ^_^

- geezbones and I met last Monday. I found her very nice, with a great sense of humour, and loved her accent. We may meet again before she flies back to Argentina. I promised that if we do meet again, we'll have a Bones marathon at my house. :)

- We're having less work this week, it's not like we're not doing anything, but at least we have time to take a breath.

- I made seitan out of plain gluten a few days ago. I experimented a new way adding some spices and it turned out to be yummy.

- Barney Stinson.

Awww... How wonderful that you and Sofi were able to meet! :)

Re: seitan, I've made and enjoyed some using a variation of the recipe in this thread. What recipe did you use, if you don't mind my asking? Seitan = yummy.

And who is that gorgeous child in your icon?

I use a recipe that I found in a Spanish forum I use to visit. When I come home from work this evening I can translate it for you. *goes open wordreference for future ingredient translations* By the way, are you a vegan/vegetarian? Not many non-veg people know about seitan.

Last night 'Aliens in a Spaceship' was being aired here, and I texted Sofi '6 7 16 M1.4', I was sure she was watching it.

A child in my icon? :-P

DH is coming to my works Christmas party with me - yay! And we are going to book a night in a hotel in Cardiff too - so can't wait.

I am deliriously in love with him right now... I mean, I always am in love with him, but you know how the ups and downs go... right now we are very much up. That makes me smile very very much :)

Thank you for posting this, I always look forward to it *g*

Thank you for responding; these are always such fun to read. :)

I DO understand exactly what you mean, and I'm ecstatic that you're "up" right now. To be known and loved well is a wonderful, wonderful thing. ♥ Enjoy the alone time with D. ;)

1. This weekend is my annual pumpkin patch/corn maze trip with my sister and one of our close friends.

2. Your #3. Rationality is a nice thing to see.

3. Monday, I hand wrote a fic in the midst of subbing. I still have some tinkering to do, but I'm really happy with the initial product. It was the catharsis I needed that day.

4. Your banner. I know you've had it for awhile, but today it's really making me smile.

5. Wilson's back on House!

Today I can smile because of the friends I have made solely through typing into little boxes, who offer the most amazing support, and who humble me with their wisdom and complete awesomeness.

*pets sleeping kitty*

The Conservatives won the election yesterday - locally and federally.

1. It is Wednesday so that means the week is halfway over.

2. Last volleyball away game today. I love the team but now I will have a life.

1. The election is over! (No more double shifts for me!)
2. Thanksgiving with my friend, Scott, was mostly fun.
3. My teenage nephew seems to be back to his old self. the last couple years have been a struggle but the new school seems to be just the thing he needed.

+We had the PSATs at school today, which means that for my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th period we basically did nothing since there weren't enough kids to really do anything. Also, therefore I basically had no homework. Woohoo!!!

+One week closer to Bones's return :)

+This friday is Roundup (fun fair type thing) and the Homecoming football game at my school. Shorter classes & good food & fun :)

Uncle Fritz will be going home from rehab after we weren't sure he would ever make it out of ICU

Remy, my 9 month old kitty is turning into a Mama's boy.

Settled a huge case at work that would have been a bear to take to trial.

Planing on spending the weekend with Mom doing "girl" stuff.

No more presidential debates....only 20 more days until this political cycle is over....thank the gods.

Aww I love squirrels too!

My smiles

I have been on leave for 3 days this week so only have today and tomorrow to get through before the weekend - then am only in the office 1 day next week :)

My new Godson (4 days old!) - had my first cuddles yesterday and he stayed awake and happy while I snuggled him.

Great night out in Oxford last night and a bit of shopping yesterday too - I found really REALLY long PJ pants which is great for me as I have 36inch inside leg and hate it when PJs scrunch up round my knees!

*random crash*
Great night out in Oxford last night
You were here and didn't come say hi?

aaah no you're in Oxford??? I'm in blinking High Wycombe!

How did I not know this before now? :) I've been at uni there for over a year now and apparently never thought to ask where in te UK you lived. Doh.

I'm late to the party, but I've decided to celebrate the fact that I showed up at all!

That Rachel Maddow clip is outstanding! Watching her hand David Frum his ass, and do it with such style and grace, was beautiful.
Little known fact: David Frum is (secretly) Canadian. I can't help but feel embarrassed and ashamed to admit he's a product of my beloved country. His mother was an icon of Canadian journalism, a fierce and brilliant woman who always made sense to me. David, not so much.

Anyway ... my smile this week was worth waiting a day for:
+ I got a new job! I'm moving within the organization, which makes me happy because I love it here. But I'll get to learn and do more, which is very exciting because I'm ready for a new challenge.
+ Also, I'm happy to be back here after a couple of weeks away. I know I'm a stranger to you, lerdo, and to this group, but I've always felt included and accepted. For that, I am always happy and grateful.
