Fic: Power (Double Drabble #5)

Title:  Power
Series:  All That Lies Between Us
Word Count: 200
Characters: Brennan, Booth
Story Notes: The following is a double drabble—200 word vignette—set in the future.
Author Notes:
I am dealing with some family issues that unfortunately aren't going to be resolved anytime soon. That's eating up a lot of my energy. So if you're waiting on a reply from me or if you get a reply that's less specific than usual, forgive me.

I still have time to write; I just have less of it and more stress. ;) I wrote this because I needed to compartmentalize for a little while. With some luck, Christmas Magic will be my next update.

“Why did I think a relationship with a squint was a good idea?”

Brennan's lips thinned and her eyes shuttered, freezing him out.

“Bones...” Booth said on a sigh.

The door clicked shut behind her.

Booth scrubbed his hands over his face. She made his blood run hot—in and out of bed.

Didn't matter what they'd been fighting about; he shouldn't have said that.

He watched her from her doorway. The tightening of her shoulders told him she knew who stood there. When he could delay no longer, he sat beside her on the couch. “I brought you one of those nasty bran muffins.”

She continued leafing through her papers.

“Hey”--he bumped his knee against hers--“would you look at me? Please?”

She shifted away; his stomach clenched.

“I'm sorry.”

Her gaze lifted to his. “That you're with me?”

“No. For what I said. I didn't mean it. I'm sorry.”

A sigh. “I hate...that I need...” She shook her head.

“Me?” he finished. “If it makes you feel better, I kinda need you.”

A long pause.

“Did you bring coffee, too?”

“Yeah.” He handed her the cup, smiling when their hands brushed and she didn't pull away.

Well done.

And if there is anything I can do, let me know.

Thanks, Witchy. I appreciate the offer. Well, if you have a spare good thought, send it my way. :)

I could see this happening.

And if you want to vent about anything, we're here for you.

Thank you; I appreciate your kindness. I may have to do a vent post soon, if I can gather my thoughts enough to be even remotely articulate.

Hey, if there's anything I can do, let me know (I already tried smooshing some chocolate through my computer to your end, but understandably- it didn't end well...) *hug*

One of the things that's so realistic about these two is that they do fight, and sometimes they even hurt each other's feelings- but, there's also that awareness of each other, and the fact that they do need each other (Even when they're being oblivious and don't realize it, lol)

*hugs you back* Thank you, Ren. I appreciate the virtual chocolate and the hug. Honestly, the kind comments people have left me really do help. They make me feel a little less like the sky is falling down. So thank you. :)

Word to what you said about Booth and Brennan. Definitely not a fairy tale romance. And I like that!

David Duchovny looks so young in your icon. :D

Thank you very much. :) I'm happy you enjoyed this.

She gets under his tough-guy exterior and makes him burn; he wriggles under her veneer of complete self-sufficiency and makes her want to rely on someone else. Perfect.

And no one would (or should, anyway) fault you for devoting your energy to your family. When everything else falls away, what else do we have? I'll be thinking of you and sparing a little of my own energy to hope for an upswing, however improbable. <3.

Just reading your words is soothing. I have no idea what you are like in "real life," but I picture you as a pretty calm and grounded sort of person. I usually think of myself like that, too, but I'm feeling pretty ruffled at the moment. :P

Hug your chicken!

If there's anything I can do, let me know. My e-mail is cheap :-) and I keep confidentiality. kirbydiaz@gmail.com.

As for the drabbles, I love them - of course! :-)

Take care, and here's hug, just because ::hugs::

Thank you very much for the hug, the offer to let me vent, and your comment about the drabble. I probably will write about some of the issues we're facing at some point, but that may require a little more psychic distance than I have right now. *hugs you back* Thanks again. :)

Nice little drabble :)

I'm sorry things aren't getting better for you in your RL. Like everyone out there, if there's anything I can do, or if you need to unload, I'm here.

Thanks, Piper. I appreciate your comment and the offer to listen. I'm sure I'll vent once I have a little emotional distance from everything.

Aww. They need each other.

It's amazing how every time you write B/B, you manage to write them in character - there's not a single time I think "she/he wouldn't do/say that." Amazing, really. Not anyone can do that. *bows down*

Your generous words have put a smile on my face. Thank you!

Fantastic, yet again. This is so perfectly in character. It blows my mind. And sorry RL isn't treating you so great right now :)

Thanks; I'm glad you thought they were in character. And thank you for the sympathy. Unfortunately, none of us leave life unscathed. ;)

There is nothing I love more than coming home after a long day and seeing an update from you. It's the best medicine. And it really helps ease the pain, lol.. of not being able to see this type of stuff b/w them on screen yet. You capture them so true to who they are give people such a realistic glimpse of what a utterly beautiful relationship they can, will have...I just have no words.

I'm sorry to hear things are tough right now. You'll be in my prayers. *hug*

Shauna! You've made me teary. Thank you so much—for your comments on this drabble, your prayers, and the hug.

You capture them so true to who they are give people such a realistic glimpse of what a utterly beautiful relationship they can, will have...I just have no words.

Looks to me like you have many words, and they have touched me deeply. :) That's how I think of Brennan and Booth—they have this beautiful relationship already, and we just haven't had the chance to see it all on-screen yet.

very well written.
excellent job, I loved it.

:D :D So much love! Loved it :)

*hugs your icon* As always, thank you, Sara.

Beautiful. I saw you posted these drabbles but I haven't had time to actually sit and relax reading them after a work day.
Sending good vibes to you =D

Aw!!! That was sweet. I like these little looks at them as a couple but with the odd little problems that normal couples have. It's nice. It's not just fluff and it's not crack. It's great.

I'm discovering I like future!fic. :) And if they ever officially become a couple, I'm sure they'll have plenty of issues—just like everyone else.

Thank you!
