Continents, oceans, disparate expectations divide them.

Yet she sees Booth everywhere: the jut of his laryngeal prominence as he throws his head back and laughs at something she said, something she hadn't intended to be humorous; the calm of his eyes as they meet hers over a coffee mug; the wide horizon of his shoulders hunching as she tells him she is not that woman.

Phantom fingers glide along her back, and she bites her lip, scolding herself for perceiving that which is not there.

Every evening she eats until she is full.

Every night she goes to bed hungry.

Oh. So lovely, even so short.

So nice to see words from you. Hope you and yours are well.

Thank you. ♥

I wish I could manage more than short right now; it's driving me crazy, but during the tiny bits of writing time I can eke out, the characters just aren't talking to me. I haven't been able to suss out the exact reasons why, but I suspect that the lengths they're going to in order to keep Booth and Brennan apart (instead of allowing them to be adults and just TRY a relationship), feel like ridiculous contortions to me at this point. Or something. *sigh* I don't even know. I'm just...thinking aloud.

Forgive the ramble, D.!

I completely understand. Ramble anytime!

Ah - I love love love this (and what auspicious checking of inbox timing I have too).

something she hadn't intended to be humorous

LOVE that distinction.

Every evening she eats until she is full.

Every night she goes to bed hungry.

Oh you're so clever, tieing that to another thing she'll miss - his always making sure she eats.

I really think she's going to miss him more than she thinks possible, and that it'll be a turning point in her.

I loved seeing something from you - loved seeing you! ♥

*mwah mwah mwah* Miss you!

Oh you're so clever, tieing that to another thing she'll miss - his always making sure she eats.

If I didn't already know were a writer, I think the above comment would have given you away. *g* You've also illustrated one of the many things I love about receiving feedback -- learning that a reader perceived something that you as a writer did not consciously intend. (Edited because it's been so long since I wrote this ficlet that I forgot that I DID intend the bit about fullness/hunger. duh.)

Thank you for everything. ♥ I'm going to try to get on more often, even though Show and I are eying each other a bit warily. *g*

ITA with Dabhug and TemperTemper:

Glad you're back, hope all is well. ::hugs::

Glad to see you've written another scrumptious drabble. This is so them, and I love the tie-in with her hunger/satiety. He's always nagging on her to eat -- and she's never satisfied that hunger for him.

Gah, you always, always capture the most poignant things in the smallest moments.

I especially love the image of her being overwhelmed by this image the jut of his laryngeal prominence as he throws his head back and laughs at something she said

Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing it. ♥

askjhfd;sj so great. i really love what you can do with so few words!

Sad and pretty and just right. Thanks for sharing :)

My dear, your words have been missed!

I particularly love the last two lines! Just beautiful!

♥♥

So good to see fic from you!

Short and sweet but charged with such great emotion, nonetheless. I'd like to think that Brennan finds Booth so much on her mind during their year apart.

Every evening she eats until she is full.

Every night she goes to bed hungry.

What a wonderful representation of her state of mind. So effective...
