Wednesday Smiles
I have had the week from hell. Both DH and mother have wound up in the ER, and both are having to see neurologists. I find myself wondering what else can go wrong this week, since it's only Wednesday. Clearly I could use a good dose of positivity:

If you have it in you to do so, please tell me what's made you happy or grateful lately. The world can always use a little more sunshine.(If it can't I definitely can!) I see some ppl lurking here; don't be shy. Feel free to share something, even if you never pipe up again. :)

I mostly post fannish things in this journal, but I think it's easy to forget that there is a real person behind the fic and the Bones commentary. Same goes for other people, of course. So I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge our humanity.

If you'd like to do so, please tell me something that made you smile this week, no matter how small. Could be the snuggle your dog gave you on Monday, the song you discovered on Tuesday, or the way your significant other smiled at you today. I've been posting these since December 2007. If you feel up to it, please respond—here, in your own journal, or elsewhere. Feel free to post more than one thing and/or respond to other comments.

Why am I doing this? Because I think it is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses, big and small, that we all experience. Being able to focus on one positive thing, however small, can give one a valuable sense of perspective.

Why Wednesday? I figure a little mid-week cheer can't hurt. :)

So sorry, hon. I know I've said this before but my thoughts are with you & yours, and I hope all these ER trips add up to nothing too serious. *hugs* ♥

What's making me happy lately?

-Kris Allen being his amazingly epic self and putting on great shows lately and not only rapping Gangsta's Paradise for the first, and so far only, time (which was hilarious and awesome all at the same time) but doing awesome acoustic versions of many of his songs and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and The Christmas Song. And being adorable in general.

-My twitter friends - flailing with everyone over there and just discussing different things has been awesome, it really feels like a bit of a family and I love it.

-It's finals week this week, and if I can just get a final draft of this story done (due tomorrow night) then I am free for winter break! A blessed ~3 weeks where I can read, write, and just relax. As well as Christmas coming up of course.

Take care of yourself!

My recent cheerful moment was my discovery of Jonathan Coulton's most excellent song "The Princess Who Saved Herself":

There was a castle by a waterfall,
With a pink and purple wall,
And a princess living there.

She had no parents and was all alone,
She got by on her own,
And she liked it pretty well.

'Cause she never wore socks,
She had a pet snake,
She bought a red guitar,
And she ate a whole cake.

And there wasn't anybody there to tell her what to do,
So she did what she wanted to.
Everybody knew the story of the princess who saved herself.
(Princess who saved herself)
(Princess who saved herself)

There was a dragon with a pointy tail,
He was bigger than a whale,
And his breath was terrible.

He scared the princess when he came around,
Tried to burn the castle down,
But she caught him by his tail.

Then she tied him to a tree,
So the dragon couldn't fly,
She told him he was mean,
And it made the dragon cry.

When he finally apologized she offered him some tea,
He accepted it graciously.
Now he visits every weekend with the princess who saved herself.
(Princess who saved herself)
(Princess who saved herself)

There was a witch who was an evil queen,
She was wrinkled old and green,
And she hated everyone.

She saw the princess in her silver gown,
Put the poison apple down,
Asked her where she bought her clothes.

So they got the witch a dress,
Put some make-up on her face,
They started up a band,
And the dragon played the bass.

Every Saturday they play until their fingertips are sore,
Mostly Math Rock and Cuddle Core.
And they call themselves The Kingdom Of The Princess Who Saved Herself.
(Princess who saved herself)
(Princess who saved herself)

The princess who saved herself.
(Princess who saved herself)
(Princess who saved herself)

Trips to the ER are horrible--tedious, stressful, uncomfortable--basically an extra ring of Hell that Dante just forgot to include, seeing as he was born in the wrong century and all. I hope everything rights itself soon!

My happy for the week: joking about Hodgins randomly punching Booth in the face for hurting Bones with dradiscontact last night (our plan? He'd knock on the door, throw a punch, say, "Okay, I feel better now", and then walk away, leaving Booth all "What the Hell?!", rubbing his jaw and Hodgins shaking his hand--'cause you know it'd hurt--haha. Then he'd return to the lab, where Cam would be waiting, tapping her foot all mommy's mad, and he'd get grounded again. Good times!)

I hope in the end this is all a big nothing. And that more fun weeks are in the near future.

My smile is a future smile - Aaron comes home on Saturday and all of us are seeing Le Miz that day.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through such a rough time. I hope everything ends up being minor.

Yesterday was a horrible drive to work and home due to snow - but you know, the first snowfalls of the year are very pretty. And I love the Christmas lights everywhere.

I hope for you and your family no more ER trips!

My smiles:
being able to walk around the mall for 3 hours and not have my bruised knee hurt.

getting my parents, sister, nieces and various other friends Christmas gifts. 9 gifts purchased, 6 to go!

smile: this conversation between a friend and her husband made me crack up:

dh: there's shit on tv tonight, so maybe you should go to redbox
dh: that sounds stupid
friend: you sounded stupid and i still brought YOU home
dh: *stumped*

Well despite feeling (and being) sick as a dog half this week there are things to smile about...

- nearly finished Christmas shopping for the kids
- looking forward to a snow day tomorrow if we get the forecasted storm
- Joe, with his prodigious reading, comes across words that he tries to pronounce by the rules he has learned.. the latest 'inky-lo-pee-dee-ah' ... encyclopedia. Heeee! He never fails to make me smile!
- the man in my icon. Swoony smile. Hawaii Five-O. Watch it for pure escapism ;)

I hope everything's great soon, and this week will be something you'll remember vaguely.

My smile: The Guy and I planning to do some day trips the last week of this month, since I have holidays. *g*
