Wednesday Smiles
Aeryn Rain
My smiles:

1) DOMA = Unconstitutional. Thank you.

2) I recently watched the first episode of Downton Abbey. (I know, I know; I'll have to catch up on the past 4-ish years of TV and movies once my kids are in college.)
2) It just rained. I like summer rain.

Miss you all like crazy. <3

If you have it in you to do so, please tell me what's made you happy or grateful lately. The world can always use a little more sunshine.(If it can't I definitely can!) I see some ppl lurking here; don't be shy. Feel free to share something, even if you never pipe up again. :)

I mostly post fannish things in this journal, but I think it's easy to forget that there is a real person behind the fic and the Bones commentary. Same goes for other people, of course. So I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge our humanity.

If you'd like to do so, please tell me something that made you smile this week, no matter how small. Could be the snuggle your dog gave you on Monday, the song you discovered on Tuesday, or the way your significant other smiled at you today. I've been posting these since December 2007. If you feel up to it, please respond—here, in your own journal, or elsewhere. Feel free to post more than one thing and/or respond to other comments.

Why am I doing this? Because I think it is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses, big and small, that we all experience. Being able to focus on one positive thing, however small, can give one a valuable sense of perspective.

Why Wednesday? I figure a little mid-week cheer can't hurt. :)

Went to the open day at Sophie's new school yesterday evening. She starts high school in September can you believe it?! Anyway this is my Wednesday smile because we really loved the school - seems nurturing, inclusive and like the teachers are really dedicated. Also has a great atmosphere. She loved it too.

Lovely to 'see' you, hon! x

WOW. That's amazing. Elf starts 7th in the fall, but Chicago's schools are structured so that K-8 is in the same building, and "high school" doesn't start till 9th grade. But I guess she IS in Junior High.

Wow. Our girls are HUGE! And...so awesome! I'm glad her school looks great!

*meep* Love your icon. :)

High school?! What? How did that happen??? Unbelievable. But the school sounds awesome. Is she super excited for fall?

I've missed you a lot, K. I'm glad to see you, too. *hugs*

That should be another smile this week - RB back!

I know, it's crazy she's that big! She is very very excited!! She has transition days there today and tomorrow and loved today so much! :)

*hugs and hugs*

My smiles:

-I got to have SUSHI for dinner last night! (OMG SQUID AND OCTOPUS NOM!)
-We got to bring a friend up for a much-needed break for her and a lovely visit for us the past 2 days
-I had leftover Thai red curry for lunch today
-My son got to have a playdate with a friend yesterday!
-My daughter is, this week, at Girl Scout camp. I'm SO happy to watch her growing up
-I have had...fun...er...*activities* these past 2 days. *GRIN*
-The weather is mild enough that my evening bike ride should be nice.

So many smiles! Sounds like you've had an awesome week. :) I am happy for you.

I can't believe your E. is at camp. They grow up so fast. Hope she's having an amazing time.

Health care is something to be grateful for, for sure. Is your family all OK???

-DOMA unconstitutional, and Prop 8 dismissed
-Wendy Davis being amazing in Texas with her filibuster for approximately 13 hours straight, standing up for women's rights against an abortion bill that, as far as I understand, a majority of Texas's constituents do not want.
-A friend taught me recently a new way to do coloring for graphics and I'm feeling inspired.
-I started watching Elementary the other day and am really enjoying it so far!

It's nice to see you around here again! Hope you and your family are well *hugs*

Leah! *hugs you back* Are you out of college for the summer? How are you?

Your smiles, especially the first couple, have me swooning. :)

I am out of college for the summer, and, actually, for possibly forever lol, as I graduated from college earlier this month! I'm good though, I've been letting myself have a few weeks to relax before I really start on the job hunt, so I've been mostly just reading fic and watching tv and enjoying some down time.

haha yes, those ones made for an fairly emotional but pretty awesome 24-ish hours this week.

How are you doing & how's the family? Kids are keeping you busy I'm sure but I hope they're doing well!

Uh... early Thursday morning smiles?

- might have some good publishing news in a few weeks, but that's all I can say about that right now.
- just got our novella back from our editor and it's not pure crap. WOOT! (That being said, it still needs some work, but that's expected)
- we've sold out two print runs of DEAD and are getting into #3 now

Yeah, I'm boring and all my good news is around career #2, but it's same old same old everywhere else in my life!

Glad to see you here, bb!

A smile is a smile, no matter the day. :)

*hugs* Thrilled to see you here -- and thrilled for you and Ann re: your book.

You're not boring. Quite the opposite.

I have your book in my Amazon cart. It's just waiting till I pile in a few more things I need. Can't wait to read it. I am really excited.

How's the fam?

Thanks for supporting us and picking up the book! But definitely no rush, it's not going anywhere.

It's a mixed bag on the family. The girls are good - Jess has just finished her first year of college where she's getting a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Photography. Jordan has just finished a very solid grade 10 with honours, and is looking at doing her undergrad degree at my university and then moving on to vet school. DH, unfortunately, is unemployed again. His company was bought out and he got restructured out. It's brought his depression on full force so he's really struggling right now, but we'll see how that goes long term.

How is your husband doing health-wise?
