Wednesday Smiles

Sorry, I know I'm a day late with this, but better late than never, I hope. ;)

If you have it in you to do so, please tell me what's made you happy or grateful lately. The world can always use a little more sunshine.(If it can't I definitely can!) I see some ppl lurking here; don't be shy. Feel free to share something, even if you never pipe up again. :)

I mostly post fannish things in this journal, but I think it's easy to forget that there is a real person behind the fic and the Bones commentary. Same goes for other people, of course. So I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge our humanity.

If you'd like to do so, please tell me something that made you smile this week, no matter how small. Could be the snuggle your dog gave you on Monday, the song you discovered on Tuesday, or the way your significant other smiled at you today. I've been posting these since December 2007. If you feel up to it, please respond—here, in your own journal, or elsewhere. Feel free to post more than one thing and/or respond to other comments.

Why am I doing this? Because I think it is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses, big and small, that we all experience. Being able to focus on one positive thing, however small, can give one a valuable sense of perspective.

Why Wednesday? I figure a little mid-week cheer can't hurt. :)

I have to get the kids ready for karate class, but here's a quote I discovered from Rainer Maria Rilke that I have fallen in love with: "Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage."

I had a delicious ice cream cone today, which helped make the 80+ degree weather much more pleasant. I also listened to a great Al-Anon podcast about being worthy of love, and how--while you're still learning to love yourself--you just have to act as if you do until it happens. So I decided after three months of not doing laundry to do three loads all in a row. Sometimes I need a reminder to pay attention to self-care, but I'm learning! And as they say: progress, not perfection.

Yes, faking it till you make it. :) Good for you, R.!

This coming Monday and Tuesday booked off work with hubby as it's his 40th birthday on the Monday <3

Happy birthday to him from Chicago!

(Did he ever get to try baseball?)

Aww... That's great, TT. I hope you guys had fun. Every birthday we get is a privilege. Happy Birthday to D!

And...three days late! ...I have Graded All The Things!

~125 short essays on Paradise Lost.
~125 long essays that were modern satirical proposals based on "A Modest Proposal"

Finished TWO hours ahead of deadline!

(After 6 weeks of Star Wars fanfic instead of, you know, incremental grading.)

Only one all-nighter, a glorious week to myself feeling like ME...without feeling like someone's house matron...glorious.

And now I can go back to All The Star Wars!

Congratulations on your hard work doing all that grading! And now enjoy all the Star Wars fic. *g* I haven't watched the latest one yet.

Happy weekend! I learned how to make fried plantains at home. Tasty.

Yum! I don't like bananas, but I do like plantains. Of course, frying makes many things taste good. *g*
