Wednesday Smiles
I mostly post fannish things in this journal, but I think it's easy to forget that there is a real person behind the fic and the squeeing over Bones.  Same goes for other people, of course.   So I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge our humanity.

Please tell me something that made you smile this week, no matter how small.  Could be the excellent latte you had on Monday, the song you discovered on Tuesday, or the way your significant other smiled at you today.  I'm going to try to post this every Wednesday for myself, and if you feel up to it, please respond—here, in your own journal, or elsewhere.   Feel free to post more than one thing and/or respond to other comments.

Why am I doing this?  Because I think it is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses, big and small, that we all experience.   Being able to focus on one positive thing, however small, can give one a valuable sense of perspective.

Why Wednesday?  I figure a little mid-week cheer can't hurt.  :)

If you feel weird about doing this in public, please comment anonymously.  I'm setting this entry to screen anon comments; I won't unscreen any anon comments unless you give me permission.  And please feel free to comment even if we're not "friends."

I'll start.

Four things that made me happy recently:

1. This quote: "Stories are medicine...They have such power; they do not require that we do, be, act anything -- we need only listen." - Clarissa Pinkola Estes

2. The Wire returned. My husband and I haven't watched it yet, but it's waiting for us. It's one of the best shows on tv, so I'm pretty excited to see what they have planned for this season.

3. The Jason Bourne Collection finally arrived in the mail! Can't wait to re-watch the fight scenes from Bourne Supremacy.

4. This song. Though I'm not remotely religious, this song makes me shiver. *sigh*

I was about not going out in New Year's Eve, because my friends changed plans. I called a friend, we don't see each other very often, he said ok, and what was supposed to be a night at home was a night out partying all night long. Funny for me. ;)

I love this idea, I really do!

Okay, I smiled today because a mutual friend has introduced me to a fellow pagan who would like me to attend her full-moon shindig at the end of the month. That makes me ten kinds of happy because I don't know many fellow pagans in the area and the idea of sharing time with someone of a like-minded spiritual path gives me a jolt of happiness.

This week I’m of vacation. Every morning, when the alarm clock don’t ring, I smile :D

My sister bought me cute matching gloves and scarf, and I wore them for the first time yesterday and they felt scrumptiously soft. I wore them while shopping at an outdoor mall, and although it was cold, it was a clear day and they were just what I needed to enjoy the outdoors.

Thats a very good idea.

My cousin is coming from Alberta to visit us today :D Havent seen her in a while, and it makes me really happy to know that she'll be here tonight!

A simply reason made me smile this week. I decided to get a new haircut, and I absolutely love it! It was time for a change, and the change worked out well!

This is such a lovely idea :0)

#1: This post and it's replies. Thanks for the mid-week cheer.

#2: The cute slinky purple top I found for $20 yesterday.

#3: A Talyn wallpaper I made for my laptop. I'm not great with photoshop, but it turned out okay.

#4: My Buffy S4 boxset.

#5: The wonderful feedback I've been getting for an old West Wing fic I was recently inspired to finish.

+ kisses on the cheek for New Years

+ an offer to throw me a party after my exam o' doom. also the person offering.

1. This clip: http://youtube.com/watch?v=glvGfQnx3DI, which theamusedone linked to today.

2. A GREAT sale at the Pottery Barn/William-Sonoma outlet.

3. My own cooking.

4. My husband tells me every day that he loves me.

5. My daughter and I had two phone conversations -- and every one makes me smile.

and 6....

YOUR FICS :-) *grabs your arms and twirls you about.*

I wrote my first fic of the new year (a drabble). Writing always makes me happy.

I got my first New Year's Eve kiss two nights ago. It was perfect, and I couldn't stop smiling for a solid fifteen minutes afterwards, I do believe.

Also, today out of nowhere, my boyfriend chased me upstairs, and when I flew onto my bed, he came running in and almost jumped on top of me. I found it hilarious.

A little late (it's Thursday now), but here I go:

I found out that New York State's motto is "Excelsior", which is Latin for "Ever Upward" and wondered if Stan Lee was aware of this when he adopted "Excelsior!" as his motto/catchphrase.

I woke up this morning and found it had snowed overnight - and continued to snow on and off all morning.

John Scalzi wrote a greatly amusing blog entry about one of his cats.

I had a little smile on Wednesday, even after all that. I caught the bus home from the city, which involved walking up from The Rocks to Wynyard (bit of a trek) then an hour on the bus and walking home from the stop. As soon as I got in the door, mum brought out a cold glass of water with lim in it from the fridge. She fixed it earlier because she knew I'd be really tired and really hot (it's insanely warm here, even for Australian summers) when I got home. So there was a smile.

And then your comment about if it was a friend I was watching on tape, if I'd think the same of them as I did of myself. It really, really made me think. At first, I thought it was just one of those things you say, baby logic for the insecure. But just a moment's thought told me no, you're right. And I may have been a bit stubborn about applying it to myself, cos I'm like that, but it really gave me something to think about and I needed that.

And just now, a Saturday smile. I listened to the song you put below. It's so beautiful! I'm not religious either but like that makes any difference, eh? My favourite songs to sing are spirituals and songs by southern country singers who love God.

(And obviously Cam icon. Can't avoid smiling when you see Cam!)
