Wednesday Smiles
I mostly post fannish things in this journal, but I think it's easy to forget that there is a real person behind the fic and the squeeing over Bones.  Same goes for other people, of course.   So I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge our humanity.

Please tell me something that made you smile this week, no matter how small.  Could be the snuggle your dog gave you on Monday, the song you discovered on Tuesday, or the way your significant other smiled at you today.  I'm going to try to post this every Wednesday for myself, and if you feel up to it, please respond—here, in your own journal, or elsewhere.   Feel free to post more than one thing and/or respond to other comments.

Why am I doing this?  Because I think it is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses, big and small, that we all experience.   Being able to focus on one positive thing, however small, can give one a valuable sense of perspective.

Why Wednesday?  I figure a little mid-week cheer can't hurt.  :)

If you feel weird about doing this in public, please comment anonymously.  I'm setting this entry to screen anon comments; I won't unscreen any anon comments unless you give me permission.  And please feel free to comment even if we're not "friends."

I'll be back with my response.

I don't always get a chance to respond to all your smiles, but I read every single one.  They all leave me feeling a little bit lighter than I did before.  So thank you!  I hope you're all having a good week, my friends, and if you're not, I hope it improves.

1. witchofthedog's excellent use of the word "twatwaffle."

2. All my LJ companions.

3. Kate Rusby's Little Jack Frost

4. Barack Obama (Yes we can!)

5. My husband--because he's funny, kind, and sometimes irritating, and I love him.

6. witchofthedog's generous and humorously timed comments about me. ;)

7. Booth and Brennan's expressions in my icon. Yes, I'm a whore for them.

1. My little cousin recently started high school so I see him around sometimes now. Evey time I do I smile and wave at him. He of course tries to ignore and avoid me because he thinks I'm the most embarrassing and uncool person EVER. It makes me laugh every time and encourages me to continue to do it.

2. My cat. Even when I'm at one end of the couch, and there is plenty of room up the other end for him, he feels compelled to curl up on my stomach or legs and purr. It seems his greatest joy in life is to be close to you and it gives you this is sweet feeling of just being loved. My cat always makes me smile.

Cousins and brothers are fun to tease. ;)

Your cat sounds wonderful. I would love to have a cat and a dog, but alas, my husband is not an animal person. Maybe in another life. *g*

1. Last weekend I met some poeple in Bilbao from a Spanish forum about TV shows. I had no time to meet them all, but a girl and I finally met after some months of online contact.

2. This vid someone sent me some days ago. I can't stop laughing. I'm not even smarter than a baby.

Friends are wonderful. :)

Oh god. My uncle fwded me that vid a couple weeks ago. I couldn't believe it. :\

First, that I can now add the word "twatwaffle" to my vocabulary. I anticipate using it often.

And it gives me great relief to know that I have the kind of neighbors who will run across the street - barefoot in the rain, no less - to help when I'm in need. Though I can't smile about the situation yet, I am certainly deeply grateful.

"Twatwaffle" like "fuck," can be very versatile. *g*

I read about what happened with Emma, and I sent you a message. So relieved everything worked out. Please don't be so hard on yourself. *hugs you*

Three good things happened today!

1. My former boss, who I just loved and miss a lot because she made our office more fun, stopped by for a visit with her new baby, who is just adorable and has crazy hair.

2. My current boss approved my vacation request, so it looks like I'll be in Chicago over Easter weekend.

3. MY DOCTOR WHO DVDs CAME IN! Best part is, they were free, because I ordered them through this peer reward system here at work. Very nifty.

Re: Three good things happened today!

I am laughing at the image of a baby with crazy hair. :)

Vacations are always good.

Free stuff = of the good.

1. The half-asleep babble that comes from my sister first thing in the morning is not only priceless, but always puts me in a good mood for the rest of the day. I can't imagine what it's going to be like without her random, nonsensical comments each day when I move out in a few months.

Oh, that's sweet. It's the little things...

Okay: I have been saving this for 'Wed Smiles' or whatever we all call this. I (little ole me) am going to the Cannes Film Festival!

There's a study abroad program where professors get you passes to see the films, and you live in France for a month, and you get to walk the red carpet. And I am going! They interviewed me and made me write an essay (and I was a nervous wreck) and then...they said 'yes, we want YOU!'

Now I have to totally blow all the money I've earned on red-carpet worthy outfits. What a challenge that will be.

um, that is about the coolest thing i have EVER heard!

That's awesome! Congratulations. :)

1. the "10 friends" meme, which included me! \o/

2. a recent post addressed to writers and readers of m/m slash, which was hilarious - and true.
posted here: http://community.livejournal.com/fanficrants/6268094.html

3. Conversations with members of the flist. \o/

4. a beautiful, beautiful, winter day.

5. Your request always makes me feel good.

6. your latest fic.

I'm not at all surprised that you were included in the "10 friends" meme. :)

A good rant can be very satisfying; I will read that one.

You are a beautiful soul; be happy.

Your icon is making me laugh. I'm so glad they'll be back in April.

the possibility of next year: a semester in the disney college program followed by a semester abroad in south korea. *fingers crossed*!!

Yesterday Bones Third Season premiered in Latin America, finally! And although I already saw all the episodes...I can't help but stare at the tv. It's different to watch it on the tv ... it feels better and more comfortable than the computer.

Yes, I agree that there's a difference b/w watching shows on a tv vs. on a computer. BTW, is that Zack staring at Cam's ass in your icon? If yes, I love it. *g*

yes :) actually HE IS!! hahaa..it's when cam calls him "Igor" on 2x20.
it's all your if you want ;)

1. Pizza and beer with a co-worker who is leaving for a new job.
2. Going to the gym and finding out I'm not as terribly out of shape as I thought - - and I lost 5 lbs.
3. Not being busy at work so I had the afternoon to read and surf.

1. I lost my favorite ring in the entire world (it has a lot of sentimental value) about a week ago and I found it today!

2. I love my new hair cut (thanks to whomever cut Sophia Bush's hair... Love It).

3. I finally found someone who loves One Tree Hill as much as me so I can finally talk about it, face to face with another person.

Oh, all sorts this week (and thank you so much for making us take a second to appreciate them...)

So, 1. The incredible Lerdo and her wednesday smiles :)

2. My little boy Joe for continuing to be incredibly brave and taking yet another trip to hospital in his stride. He has to wear a cast for another two weeks and he isn't remotely bothered *proud mum alert*

3. My good friend Mel for offering to babysit this friday as it's my birthday, even though it means bringing her kids with her and dealing with four little monsters.

4. My husband for making me laugh til my sides ached as we went to sleep last night - one of those you had to be there moments, we both kept coming out with hilarious nonsense.

5. Special thanks to the burglars that broke our rotten old garage door... a shiny new one is being fitted by my insurance company as I type :)

I'm sorry I'm late to comment but my Internet connection was dead all this week. I hope it's still ok to post my smiles.

1. I made friends with someone I've waited to talk to ever since October. And I'm not the one who took the first step towards him.(This sounds weird for someone who doesn't know my history, but to cut it short...well, it's not easy for me to make friends).

2. Before I left for college, my kitten came back! She had been missing for a while and I finally found her again!
